Chip was driving us to a stand-up show in which we were both due to perform, blasting Kanye’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy the whole way, as he’d just bought it that day. This jam came on and I was bobbing my head to Jay-Z’s verse (I love it when he does that sort of half-whisper thing), but when Nicki Minaj stepped to the mic, I sat bolt upright in the passenger seat, like, “What the fuck is this?!” I was blown away, and instantly felt bad for dismissing her as a Lil Kim clone when she first came on the scene. I made Chip rewind and play just her verse about six times in a row.
