After a long period of unemployment (with a period of panic/anxiety over money toward the end), I started a new job today — as an associate producer on a hit television show. It’s unbelievable. I truly, honestly feel like the luckiest person alive, and this song ran through my head all day. When you’re young and you’re disciplined in class for cracking jokes and talking back, you kind of never dream that it can become something you get paid for — that it’s even possible to work in an environment that will foster and reward such behavior. But it’s true! It’s real! Having a job that values wit and uniqueness pretty much blows my mind every second, for real. I wake up every morning realizing just how lucky I am, and I don’t take any of it for granted.
