Songs That Saved Your Life

don't forget the songs
that made you cry
and the songs that saved your life
yes, you're older now
and you're a clever swine
but they were the only ones who ever stood by you

I'm April. I like music.
I post a song a day whenever I can & my story that goes with it.

Nine Inch Nails - “Ringfinger” (6.50MB mp3 file)

In high school I absolutely did not like Nine Inch Nails, and kind of defiantly so. I think I knew nature’s chips were already stacked against me — tall, gaunt, pale, black hair — so I had to make it clear I wasn’t goth? Or wasn’t into industrial? Or wasn’t super angry and tortured? I don’t know. I just know I was not buying what Trent Reznor was selling. And that the video for “Closer” scared the living shit out of me.

During this period, a pen pal put this song on a mixtape for me and for years it remained the only Nine Inch Nails song I liked, until after college when I gave Pretty Hate Machine a try and was like, “This ain’t so bad.” I’m still not president of the fan club, but there are NIN jams I can get into these days.
